Happy New Year to you all folks!!
This seems a little late in posting and, whilst I always like to start off the year with a blog post, I have been rushed off my feet with bookings and getting back into the swing of every day life, with Christmas now nothing but a distant, wonderful memory!
I hope you all had a wonderful break. As usual, we spent Christmas down with my folks in lovely Somerset, where I grew up - somewhere I always love to go back and visit. We went on a Santa train through the Quantocks on Christmas Eve and spent the holiday with close family opening presents and gorging on plenty of Christmas food and snowballs!
Still, it was straight back to work before the new year with some lovely new lash customers and plenty of NYE revellers to get ready for their nights out... And it hasn't stopped since! I'm so grateful for each and every client who stumbles across my work and decides to book with me; part of the thing I love about my job so much is the different people I get to meet and work with and to do my bit with hair and make up really makes my soul sing. January has already given me some incredible opportunities and I look forward to sharing more images and info soon...here's a little update!
Chess - July 2018
Ever since director Meng KHaw asked me to be head of styling for his PTC production of Chess, I have been happily beavering away on costume ideas and battling mounds of paper mache. Rehearsals began this week for the show, which will be showing at the Arts Thetre, Nottingham from July 4th-7th 2018, the cast is incredibly strong and it's going to be a spectacular show, I'm excited to be part of it - plus there is the small factor of Miss Daisy who will be making her debut in the show this year!
Weddings, weddings and more lovely weddings..
I had the pleasure of doing my first wedding of 2018 on Saturday 13th with the gorgeous Sarah and her bridal party...there were a few sneaky instas but I can't wait to see the professional shots as Sarah and her bridal party all looked quite the vintage-inspired vision. I'm very excited to have so many weddings booked for 2018 and 2019 already - I still have spaces available, so if you are thinking of booking your hair and make up, don't delay in booking your FREE consultation with me today! I have a few wedding fayres coming up also - you can see me at the following events to talk hair and make up and I will be bringing my beautiful friend Hatty along to demonstrate some looks on
21st January 2018: Park Radisson Hotel, Nottingham
4th February 2018: Embankment, Trent Bridge, Nottingham
18th February 2018: Goosedale, Nottingham
4th March 2018: Colwick Hall, Nottingham
This year will see an increase in the commercial work I will be doing in association with In Session Styling and work alongside some wonderful photographers. Last year, some of the highlights of my working year involved working with local brands to produce some great concept shoots and I will be writing more about those in the coming weeks. Last week, I had the fantastic opportunity to work with Michael Lau, a wonderful photographer whose work I have admired for a long time - here's a little peek of one of the looks we created with gorgeous model Indrija, assisted by the lovely Spencer on the day also!
Jiving My Way into 2018
Of course, one of last year's big achievements on a personal level was entering - and winning - Ultra Ballroom, with a jive and my best friend JJ beside me. Honestly, as an ex-dancer, I have never really spoken about my journey in the dance world and why I decided not to pursue it. But I never thought I would dance again in public and to have received so much incredible support from friends, family and everyone who said such kind things to us, really spurred us on to work hard for the competition. Well...on Saturday we headed back into the studio again to start learning some new dance moves and I am excited to say that we will be carrying on our dance partnership! Coming to a stage near you very soon indeed!!
At the end of the year, I started to post a little more about the skincare products I was using, as I find this is such an important topic of conversation for clients prior to make up application. This year, one of my resolutions is to really look at skin conditions and how my own skin is affected by diet and certain ingredients that we find in every day skincare. It has never been my wish to sell products in my line of work, but I do feel that it is my responsibility and passion to stay well-informed on skincare and how to keep your skin in tip top condition - so expect a little more in the way of collaborations and posts in 2018.
So here's to a happy and healthy 2018....more of the same stuff that made last year so wonderful!
